If we could hand you a sample first, we would. But the chicken’s in a freezer and you’re on a website, so this guarantee is the closest I can get:

Your chicken should arrive in good shape. You should like it. And you should be glad you bought it. If any of that isn't true, send me a note. I'll make it right.

  • Nope. The box is lined with styrofoam and filled with gel packs, along with your rock-hard frozen chickens. It should be good for about 48 hours after shipping. Grab it when you can — earlier is always better, but if it shows up at lunch, you're probably fine until after work. And you'll have a tracking number, so you can watch it the whole way.

  • We’re not Amazon.

    We ship once a week, usually on Mondays, because that gives your chicken the best chance of getting to you before the weekend.

    Your chicken leaves our processor in Modesto rock-hard frozen. We pack it in an insulated box with plenty of gel packs, then send it on its way.

    I usually make the labels Sunday night, so you may get your tracking email before the box actually starts moving Monday.

    Most boxes get to your place pretty fast:

    Northern California: often Tuesday
    Southern California: usually Wednesday
    Farther away: usually Wednesday, sometimes Thursday

  • Pounds are kind of a terrible way to picture freezer space, so here’s the easier version.

    8 lb
    Think a few packages of chicken from the grocery store. Unless your freezer is completely jammed, you’ll find room.

    20 lb
    Think one full paper grocery bag, plus a little more.

    Plan on making room for one full grocery bag in the freezer. The rest can usually go in the fridge and get eaten over the next week or so.

    40 lb
    Now we’re talking about some chicken.

    Because chicken doesn’t pack especially tight, figure about two full paper grocery bags, plus part of a third.

    You can make that work in a regular fridge/freezer if you’re willing to rearrange things, but this is where having a chest freezer starts to make life a lot easier.
